Obedience

Based on your opinion, studies of past events, etc. Ponder the question below and respond with one paragraph of thoughtful analysis.  You CAN use I language for this:

Why do people choose to participate in horrific events?

Most of the time people to not choose to participate in a horrific event.  They might be sometimes forced to participate in it.  Sometimes the people might be the victims sometimes they may be the persecutors but most of the time on either side they may have no choice.  For example the German soldiers in the Holocaust had to do it for their country.  Many of them were persuaded and thought it was good for them.  The Jews were forced into it and the Allies had no choice but to fight back and put themselves into it to help other because they are in their universe of Obligation.

Moving On

In your opinion, what is the most effective way to overcome trauma?

I think the most effective way to overcome trauma is distracting yourself or doing something you like.  If you put your mind on other things soon you will get over it without even knowing.

What is trauma?

Trauma is when your brain goes into shock over a disturbing experiences.

What counts as trauma?

Trauma can be all kinds of things.  It depends on the person.  It has to be intruding to you.  It is very personal.  You could have experienced something disturbing.  It sometimes may involve pain - mental and physical.

Enduring Legacies and Obligation

"In recent weeks, President Pinera has said that while the military has been assigned all blame for the dictatorship, there are still civilians who benefited from the regime but who have never taken responsibility. In the end, he said, the country needs both justice and forgiveness."

  • Do you agree or disagree with the idea, that those who benefited should be held responsibility?
    • I disagree because they were just trying to make a living and not help the government in taking part of killing.  They were probably forced to.  If that is the case then they shouldn't be held responsible.
  • How does the call for justice connect to the call for forgiveness?
    • Once you forgive someone everything evens out and there is no tension.
  • What does this quote say about where the country of Chile's citizens fall in their universe of Obligation?  Who is in and or out of their universe?  Why do you say that?
    • This quote says that Chile's citizens are in the country's universe because without them what would the country be.  There would be no one to keep the country moving.  The government is like the bones and organs but the citizens are like the skin to hold everything together.

Enduring Legacies & Voice

What Acts  of revolution/ rebellion did you see in the Nostalgia of Light.?
They rebelled against the destruction of memory; personally and as a whole country.  The people wanted to know about their loved ones and what happened to the country.

In your opinion, which act of preserving history was the most effective and why?
The best act of preserving history is books and especially memories of people that encountered the history face to face.  Books are so much easier to get rid or then memory of people and that is why we still have that small memory of these concentration camps because of those little survivors.

Arpilleras

When you look at the Arpilleras work, do you think that they count as acts of revolution and rebellions?  Do they count as voice? Why/Why not?

Yes, I thinks these definitely count as revolution and rebellion.  They are peaceful protest without words.  The art may not be words but it is definitely signs and signals which also counts.  It is a different form.  They are signs that represent words to protest with.  These women express their voice through the art they make.  They truly care for their art and treat everyone with respect.
